1/16/11

So one of my resolutions this year is to write more, including blogging regularly so I've decided to at least post a blog every Sunday, whether I have something to talk about or not.  So be prepared for the hodgepodge to begin.  I've been warming up by journaling lately and have actually, I think, started a habit. I've written something every day this year so far.  Not too bad.  But my blog is not my journal so while I may write something personal occasionally, I'll more likely ramble about whatever's going on at the time.  Which is currently a whole lot of nothing.  I need to discipline and start working on Faustus but mostly I've been watching movies on the new tv and reading and hanging out with friends.  So here are the recent movies that I've watched.

Today, I watched Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist.  Not very scary.  I love Stellan Skarsgard but I should find some of his foreign work I think.  He was good of course.  But the story could have been done better and some of the visual effects were really bad.  They did scrap this movie and have a new director take it over and the revamped version was released as Exorcist: The Beginning, which I saw years ago but I'm going to get it again so I can really compare the two versions.  Stellan's in both so how can I go wrong?  I do remember finding the other version more disturbing.  But all demon stuff wigs me out no matter how cheesy it is.  I guess that's my primal fear.  That and spiders.

For movie night this week we watched The Wedding Singer which I had never seen.  It was cute.  Nothing I'd go crazy over.  We watched Weird Science next which I was really excited for as I loved that movie as a teenager, but I have to say that it really doesn't hold up.  Definitely Hughes weakest.  But RDJ was still adorable.

Saw some theatre this weekend, Friday night KT & I went to see The Busy World is Hushed at Theatre Out.  I knew nothing about this show walking in and it was pretty good.  Three person show about an Episcopalian minister, her son and the gay man who is helping her to write a book about a recently discovered gospel.  Lots of discussion about the meaning of faith as the relationships and secrets of the three are unfolded.  The two guys were pretty good, but I didn't care for the woman playing the minister.  Tonight, David and I went to SCR and saw Circle Mirror Transformation.  Again, I really knew nothing about the show going in, but I ended up really enjoying it.  It basically was about a theatre exercise class at a community college and the relationships of the 5 people in the class.  Hit a little close to home on a couple of levels, mainly the ridiculousness of acting exercises and the awkwardness of one of the characters who was recently divorced, played by Arye Gross who is a wonderful character actor that's been in basically every show on tv at some point.

Last night, I actually got to see Noel's band, Just Plain Big, play.  That was fabulous, they were really fun OC punk band.  Totally cute, I'm going to start my bid for them to get back together and play again soon as I think this was a one time reunion.

So yeah, that's quite a lot going on.  Also finally finished Byron's Childe Harold's Pilgrimage this week and also reading Blood Sucking Fiends by Christopher Moore and Celtic Myths and Legends.  ADD anyone?
